I've spent 20+ years in the aviation charter industry, fifteen of them in Part 135 management roles, holding Director of Operations and an FAA Check Airman designation — both of which I still hold today. I've worked across air medical, on-demand charter, and the fractional and 91K world. International captain. Over 12,400 hours total, 8,700+ of them under Part 135.

I don't list that to impress anyone. I list it because it's the whole argument. Most of what's written about charter certification — and nearly all of what's sold as charter broker training — comes from people who have never held a certificate, never signed off a check ride, and never had to explain an operation to a FSDO inspector.

I took an operation through certification the hard way. Long timelines, revision cycles that went nowhere, documents rewritten because nobody had explained what the FSDO actually needed to see. The process wasn't hard because the regulations were unclear. It was hard because no one would say plainly what "done" looked like.

We don't hand you a manual template and wish you luck. And to be straight with you: there is no way to fast-track a certificate. Anyone promising one is selling something. What we can do is remove the self-inflicted delays — incomplete submissions, unclear documentation, avoidable revision cycles. That's where the lost time actually goes.

Twenty years of check rides taught me something about myself: the flying was never my favorite part of the job. The teaching was. Watching somebody stop reciting a regulation and start understanding why it was written — that's the best day at work I know.

That's why Jet Mentis Academy exists. Charter brokers get handed a phone and a price sheet and told to go sell. Nobody teaches them what operational control means, what an operator can legally do, or how to spot an illegal charter before their client is standing next to one on the ramp. It's a training gap, not a character flaw. So we built the course we wished existed and continue to build new ones.

I tell brokers and operators the same thing: doing it right the first time is expensive — doing it wrong is more expensive, because then you pay twice. Once to do it, once to fix it.
